Who are you?
I am a problem solver by nature, be it in the kitchen or at the office. I’ve always appreciated how tech provides a framework to solve complex problems and create value. With that mindset, I pursued a career in computer science with a solid base in maths, and specialized myself in the exciting field of AI. My focus within AI has been natural language processing (NLP), a field where I did my PhD research during the time when it grew from a rather niche academic domain into a mainstream tech that is changing the way businesses operate across the board. Throughout my career I have applied my AI expertise on data of many kinds besides language: I have enabled real estate companies to use less energy in their buildings, helped manufacturing industries to reduce waste, and contributed to creating solid datasets to make vehicles safer on the roads. When I’m not optimizing things at work, I like spending time with the family, fixing stuff around the home, reading, hiking or just being out there playing with sticks and stones.
What made you join Devies Digital Core?
I heard Devies Digital Core was setting out to pinpoint their clients’ needs in tech and to create ad-hoc teams to help them with the data analytics side of digitalization. I sat down with some of the team and learned that Devies Digital Core has an approach to business that clicks with me: a brilliant set of skills in the team, determination to really understand the client’s background, needs, and goals, and a team-oriented approach to work where knowledge and skills are combined in the best possible way for each work case. I thrive in such an environment and this brings the best out of me, both on a professional and on a personal level, so the next step was clear.
How can the industry maximize its use of you?
Having worked with analytics and AI for quite a long time equips me with deep insight into the field. AI has been around for a while and being familiar with its development helps avoid falling for the buzzword trap: a big part of the work is being able to choose the right tool for the job at hand. Besides technical expertise within AI/NLP, I bring project management experience to the table. I love to be there at the beginning of a project when a route starts to be drawn for getting from A to B and to lead the way along that route as the project develops from a plan into a reality. What makes my day-to-day work interesting and challenging are the discussions with teammates and stakeholders where the possibilities in the project are drawn and discarded and remade. As mentioned above, I’m a problem solver, so I really enjoy sitting down, understanding specs, and nailing down the techniques and approaches that will bring the best value for our clients.
